Story

I think the story here is that I prefer to live in the 'now'.  Do I always manage to do it? Nope. But singing this one live reminds me that I should!

Story

I have had a number of people ask me if this one is about actual water being poisoned. It is not. In a nutshell, it's about those around us (many of whom are in government) who seem to foul up the place with their self-dealing and bullshit.  The actual persons who served to inspire the song shall remain nameless...for now.

Story

As I was growing up, I had this recurring dream/premonition that I had been here before. Not an uncommon feeling, so I'm told.  But it was pretty vivid and gave me the idea for the song.

A man of neutral political persuasion takes his family to the Kansas plain only to be brought to his knees by the loss of his wife to disease.  As the war between the states encroaches, he loses his daughter to a deserting soldier.  His sons are finally lost to the Civil War as casualties.

I like the picture it paints.

David Starr and AmyLou Wilson

Story

My longtime friend Amy Lou Wilson came to the house one evening for dinner and brought some poetry.  She was kind enough to let me edit it down to a bluesy number about seeking out love or something like it in exotic locales.

Looking back, Mexico and Memphis may not qualify as exotic, but at the time, they worked just fine.

Good Days

Story

Just think warm fall days with your kid.  The adult part of your life may not be going very well, but kids just need a pile of leaves and a loving parent on days like that.

Story

A song of longing, pure and simple.  But if you found what you were longing for, could you handle it?  It's a fair question and one you might want to ask.

Story

I wrote this little piece after moving to Colorado's western slope.  Recorded in the upstairs apartment of my guitar store on a Fostex digital machine in the summer of 2001.

Story

I once helped a friend through a weekend of difficulty and was reminded that we can indeed make each other feel alive just by being there and being truly human. She knows.

Story

Not sure what the inspiration was for this tune.  I am pretty sure it was just a country song that got out somehow without my permission. Dan Forde of Aspen does a fine bluegrassy version and I like it a lot done that way.
